Nikki Giovanni

On Friday, February 21, 2020, we are pleased to welcome guest poet Nikki Giovanni to Emory University's Robert W. Woodruff Library for our 20th Annual 12th Night Revel. Nikki Giovanni is one of America's foremost Poets. Over the course of a long career, Giovanni has published numerous collections of poetry — from her first self-published volume Black Feeling Black Talk (1968) to the New York Times best-seller Bicycles: Love Poems (2009) — several works of nonfiction and children’s literature, and multiple recordings, including the Emmy-award nominated The Nikki Giovanni Poetry Collection (2004). Her most recent publications include Chasing Utopia: A Hybrid (2013) and, as editor, The 100 Best African American Poems (2010). A frequent lecturer and reader, Giovanni has taught at Rutgers University, Ohio State University, and Virginia Tech, where she is a University Distinguished Professor.

We are also excited to announce that Ginger Smith 77C 82G will serve as this year’s Chief Reveler.

The evening will begin with cocktails and poetry, followed by our dinner and program, which will afford opportunities to mingle with Ms. Giovanni and other guests while surrounded by rare items from our collections.

We look forward to an evening of poetry, music, and revelry with you on February 21, 2020.
