Spring 2021 Update
For hybrid or remote teaching and learning, we recommend using streaming video in lieu of physical media such as DVDs whenever feasible. Most streaming video content licensed by the Emory Libraries is searchable in discoverE. Subject librarians can assist with acquiring streaming versions of videos that you already use and titles not currently in our collection. You can also use the Emory Libraries streaming video purchase request form.
Limit Format to "Video"
When searching for films and videos in discoverE, some keywords, subject headings, or personal names can retrieve a large number of results. Limiting the format to Video helps narrow down to what you want.

Use Facets to Refine Your Results
The facets on the left side of discoverE enable you to narrow your search results and tighten your focus. For example, after a simple keyword search for “climate change” you can limit your choices to online streaming videos or physical items in the library.

The Subject section reveals Library of Congress subject headings within your search results. In the example above, note that “Climatic changes” (versus “climate change”) is an official subject heading.
Find a Copy in Your Library
When you find a physical item such as a DVD that you want to use, you can see information in discoverE about library holdings, including the call number and whether the item is checked out.
In some cases, multiple libraries in the Emory system may have a copy. Here is an example of a DVD that is held at more than one library:

View Holdings
When you click on the record in discoverE, you can see more details about the item. Clicking on the Physical Resource tab will display library holdings.

In this case, we have copies both at Oxford and the Music and Media Library on the main campus. Note that they have different call numbers:

Get the Item
Online Videos: Online videos are available through links in discoverE. Use your Emory ID and password to access the video.
Physical items: Give the call number to library staff at the location where it is held, and they will retrieve the DVD or other video format for you. They can also help you obtain a video if it is not held at your home library.
