Individual Study Rooms and Carrels

We assign individual study rooms and carrels to facilitate research and scholarship activities at Emory University.

Individual Study Rooms

Laney graduate students writing dissertations and faculty are eligible for individual study rooms.

A study room is assigned to one person for up to three semesters/one full year. You may reapply after 1 year.

Study rooms are not guaranteed for the dates requested on the application. Due to high demand, there is usually a waiting list. Assignments are made according to the date the applications are received at the Library Service Desk. You will be notified as soon as a study room becomes available.

Note: Graduate students may apply for a carrel while waiting for a study room to become available.

Individual study rooms are equipped with a built-in desk, shelves, and a chair. Each individual study room has a door that locks and you will be given a key. A computer is not provided but the wireless network is available throughout the library.

Carrels

Undergraduate students writing honors theses and Laney graduate students are eligible for individual (open) carrels.

An individual carrel is assigned to one person for up to three semesters/one year, ending on May 31st. Carrel assignments are made according to the date the applications are received at the Library Service Desk. You will be notified as soon as a carrel becomes available.

Individual open carrels are approximately 3' x 5' and they come with a built-in desk, shelves, a chair, and a small locker with a built-in combination lock.
