Access Materials in discoverE

Use discoverE to find physical materials; request materials that are checked out, in storage, or at other library locations; or access online resources.

Find physical copies of materials

discoverE is the shared catalog for all Emory Libraries.

If a physical copy of an item is available, note which library it's located in and the item's call number. To find the item in the Woodruff Library Building, view the Maps and Call Number Locations page.

Find information on other Emory Libraries by choosing the library in the Libraries menu at the bottom of discoverE’s webpages.

Request storage, checked out, or Oxford College library materials

Off-site items

  • If item is at the Library Service Center, request delivery to one of the libraries.
  • You may request specific articles from journals or book chapters. Log in to your discoverE/library account using the "Sign in" link at the top right of discoverE to see a “Request Article or Chapter” tab for any item that is requestable.
Checked-out items
  • Log in to your discoverE/library account using the "Sign in" link at the top right of discoverE.
  • Click on the item title to see the full record in discoverE, and choose the "Locate/Request Item" tab.
  • Click “Request” (top left of Locate/Request Item tab) to recall item from the current borrower.
Items at Oxford College Library
  • You can request delivery of Oxford Library items to the main campus by following the steps above for checked-out items. Just make sure to choose the correct library to deliver it to.

Access online resources

If the item is available electronically, click the “Access Online” tab in the full item description, where you can see links and options to access the item. Some items may also have a “Link to Resource” or other link in the Links section of the View Details tab that leads to a version of the item.

Occasionally, especially when using the Combined search, items with “No online access” status or showing only physical copies may also have a “Look for Open Access version” link in the Locate/Request Item area.  This is a service provided through the Unpaywall browser extension.

Request an article or chapter

Electronic Document Delivery (EDD) is a scanning service offered to Emory University faculty, staff, and graduate students at no cost. If you would like a PDF of an article or book chapter that Emory Libraries owns in physical format, you can place an article or chapter request through discoverE. Library staff will scan and upload the document to ILLiad (Emory's interlibrary loan and EDD system) and then notify you by email when the PDF is available.
