Request Items

Emory Libraries borrowing services offer online requesting and contact-free pickup for current students, faculty, and staff for the 2020-2021 academic year.


Request Library-Owned Items

Physical items held by the Emory Libraries are available for loan to current faculty, staff, and students through discoverE. Patrons will be notified when items are available and may choose from the following Library to Go pickup options on the Main Emory Campus:

  1. Woodruff Library Outdoor Hold Lockers: Library users that have completed the Spring 2021 Onboarding process may request pickup of requested library materials from the Robert W. Woodruff Library Hold Lockers. The self-service locker kiosk allows patrons to check out Woodruff Library items they have placed on hold in a convenient, contact free method, with 24/7 outdoor access. No appointment required. Simply select the Robert W. Woodruff Outdoor Library Lockers as your pickup location when making your request. Please reference the Locker FAQ for additional details.
  2. Grab and Go Pickup from the Woodruff Library Entrance Desk: Library users that have completed the Spring 2021 Onboarding process may request pickup of requested library materials from the Entrance Desk of the Robert W. Woodruff Library. Once your request has been processed, Library staff will contact you via email to schedule a no-contact pick up appointment. Pickup appointments are available 7 days per week.
  3. Curbside Pickup from the Woodruff Library Loading Dock: Currently enrolled Emory students, staff and faculty may request curbside delivery of requested library materials from the library loading dock. Once your request has been processed, Library staff will contact you via email to schedule a no-contact pick up appointment. Curbside pickup appointments are available Monday through Friday from 10 am – 4 pm.
  4. Ship to Home Delivery Service: During Spring 2021, the Robert W. Woodruff Library is piloting a Ship to Home service for currently enrolled Emory students and faculty engaged in remote teaching or learning and who reside outside of the Atlanta Metro area (50 mile radius) and within the continental United States. Eligible users can request library items to be shipped to their residence free of charge. Mailing out of materials occurs once weekly on Thursday and sent via FedEx 3-day business class. To qualify for Thursday shipment, requests must be submitted by Wednesday at noon. Emory Libraries will cover the cost of shipping, including the cost of return. Return shipping instructions are provided to users following program registration. The recipient is responsible for lost or damaged materials. Advance registration is required. Request Scans from Library-Owned Physical Items

Electronic Document Delivery is a scanning service offered to Emory University faculty, staff, and students at no cost. If you would like a PDF of an article or book chapter that Emory Libraries owns in physical format, you can place an Electronic Document Delivery request through discoverE. Library staff will scan and upload the document to ILLiad (Emory's interlibrary loan and EDD system) and then notify you by email when the PDF is available.

Note that not all Emory libraries participate in the scanning service to the same degree, so some material may be ineligible for scanning.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) of Non-Emory Items

Current Emory students, faculty, and staff may request electronic delivery of book chapters and journal articles from other libraries through ILLiad. Availability of ILL materials may depend on the opening of our partner libraries.

If your ILL request is for a physical item, once you are notified of its availability please schedule an appointment to pick it up.

Request a Purchase

Do you want to recommend the library purchase a title that isn’t in the collection? Submit a purchase request form for the library to purchase specific materials, such as DVDs, books, and e-books.

Returning Materials

If you are in the Atlanta area, we advise you to use the book drops at the following libraries to drop off your returns:

  • Robert W. Woodruff Library (Directions) book drops are located on either side of the main entrance of the Woodruff Library. 
  • Pitts Theology Library (Directions) book drops are located outside the 2nd floor entrance of the Rita Anne Rollins Building, near the Chemistry building.
  • Note: If you wish to return Music and Media Library equipment or media, please contact us through Ask a Librarian to request assistance.
  • If you are returning more than 50 books at once, please email ask@emory.libanswers.com in advance of returning the items to arrange for a no-contact drop off appointment.

If you are not in the Atlanta area, you may self-ship the items using a courier of your choice that offers package tracking capabilities. Please be sure to include your name and contact information and use the following physical address to ensure delivery:
