Professional Profile

Chris Doty joined the Robert W. Woodruff Library in April of 2014 as the Librarian for Chemistry and Physics.

Chris earned an M.S. in Information Science at the School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  His Master’s paper investigated the influences of perceived citation count increases and author-fees on the attitudes of tenure-track science faculty toward open access journals.

Prior to becoming a librarian, Chris earned a B.S. at the University of Arizona and a Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin, both in Chemical Engineering.  His doctoral work focused on the electron transport, self-assembly, and electroluminescence of nanocrystal superlattices.

As a post-doctoral researcher in the School of Biological Sciences, Department of Chemistry, and Centre for Nanoscale Science at the University of Liverpool, Chris studied the synthesis, stabilization, and functionalization of silver nanoparticles in aqueous solutions.  He also studied the fabrication and use of inverted colloidal crystal scaffolds for three-dimensional cell culture as a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan.

From 2011 to 2014 Chris was the subject librarian for the Schools of Physics and Materials Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Chris is an active member of the Physics-Astronomy-Mathematics Division of the Special Libraries Association.
