Services for Library Users with Disabilities
Emory Libraries seeks to provide an accessible and “barrier-free” environment and equal access to library services and collections for all library users.
We work with the Office of Accessibility Services to accommodate reasonable requests for assistance in obtaining, accessing, and making use of library resources, materials, and services.
Some services require advance notice to ensure staff availability. For specific accommodations, please contact the Woodruff Library Service Desk at 404-727-6873 or Ask a Librarian, or our other Emory Libraries locations.
Services at the Robert W. Woodruff Library
Retrieval Service
If you have a disability you may request assistance in retrieving materials from our collections. Retrieved Woodruff Library and Music and Media Library material will be held for you at the Library Service Desk on Level 2.
Physical Collections Access
The Emory Libraries have a significant collection of e-books that meet accessibility requirements for sight-impaired participation. The Emory Libraries work with several services such as EMMA, Bookshare, HathiTrust, Internet Archive, the Georgia Tech Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation E-Text service, along with various publishers to provide access to accessible copies of our print materials. When necessary, the Libraries will rescan materials in accessible formats. For more details as to these services, please see the following resource guide.
AV Collections Access
Emory Libraries work to ensure that our streaming video content includes closed captioning by working with vendors, pulling subtitles for locally hosted digital content, and/or commissioning captions when they are not otherwise available.
Adjustable Height Tables
Adjustable height tables are located in the Learning Commons next to the Library Service Desk on level 2.
For assistance, please contact the Library Service Desk at 404-727-6873 or Ask a Librarian.
Disability Parking
Several disability parking spaces around and/or near the Woodruff Library Building are available.
Convenient parking is available across the Atlanta and Oxford campuses for the other Emory Libraries locations. Please contact your library for more information.
Animals Policy
The policy of Emory University is that animals are not permitted in University buildings due to restrictions governing University insurance policies, concerns for the integrity of research projects, and interest in the welfare of our faculty, students, staff, and visitors. Service Animals and Research Animals are the exception to this policy.
Assistance, Comfort, and/or Emotional Support Animals are not allowed inside University buildings without approval from the Office of Accessibility Services.
