From Tablet to Tablet: Exploring Emory’s Jewish Studies Collections (exhibition)

This exhibition explores the enduring relationship between libraries, archives, museums, and the collective pursuit of knowledge. Marking the 50th anniversary of Jewish studies at Emory, the exhibition highlights the extraordinary partnership between academic researchers, students, librarians, archivists, curators, and donors whose collective efforts have built one of the university’s most significant areas of study.

Through rare books, manuscripts, archival materials, artworks, and artifacts, visitors are invited to experience the breadth and diversity of Jewish intellectual, religious, cultural, and historical traditions. The exhibition traces the journey of knowledge creation – from the preservation of historical records to the ongoing work of interpretation, research, and teaching. Together, these spaces demonstrate how collections not only document the past but also inspire new questions, new scholarship, and deeper connections across generations.
 
Rare items include a 4,000-year-old cuneiform tablet; a Torah scroll; a handmade 1804 Jewish prayer book, and more.
