This Code of Conduct is intended to ensure a positive experience for all library users. Library users can expect to be treated with courtesy and respect by library staff and other library users, in keeping with Emory University’s policies and the Emory Libraries policies.
All library users, including visitors, are expected to treat library staff and other library users with courtesy and respect and are subject to relevant University policies, including, but not limited to:

Library Policies
- Food and Drink. You may consume food and drink in the libraries. Some spaces are off limits to food and drink; look for signage. Please remember to clean up your food containers. In the event of a spill, contact a staff member.
- Personal Space. Keep in mind that many library users expect to study without interruption while in the library. You may be asked to leave the library if you are disruptive to others.
- Quiet Spaces. The Libraries have dedicated quiet study spaces. Check for signage or ask a staff member for locations.
- Need to meet with others or use an individual study room? Consider booking a room.
- Consistent with the Respect of Open Expression Policy, protests, including but not limited to signs, sit ins, and silent protests are not allowed without prior approval by the relevant library director
- Flyers and other signs may be posted on bulletin boards throughout the Libraries. Note: The Hugh F. MacMillan Law Library does not have a bulletin board. Flyers and other signs are prohibited in the law library unless expressly permitted by the law library administration.
- For lost or damaged library materials, please contact your library through Ask a Librarian.
- Certain resources are restricted to Emory faculty, staff, and students: group and individual studies, production studios, electronic resources, general and specialized computer workstations, loanable equipment, and interlibrary loan services.

Consequences
Breaking a University or Library policy may result in library staff following the procedures outlined in university and Library policies mentioned above. For undergraduates, library staff may file a report with the Student Conduct Council; for graduate students, library staff will contact the relevant graduate school; for faculty and staff, library staff will consult with Human Resources. For visitors and community users, library staff may ask you to leave the library.
