Borrowing Privileges

The Emory Libraries offer a mediated request and fulfillment model for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Borrowing in 2020-2021

Several Emory Libraries locations now allow stacks browsing.

Requests for Emory Libraries materials placed via discoverE are still available and encouraged.

Please place interlibrary loan requests through ILLiad for items that are loaned or otherwise unavailable.

Click on the location links in the sidebar to view specific library policies and privileges.

Helpful Tips

Virtual Browsing: In lieu of in-person browsing, try our virtual browsing feature in discoverE. Search for an item, open the record and click on Browse Virtual Shelf to see materials surrounding the item on the shelf.

Requesting materials: All available items are requestable through discoverE. Once placing your request, you will be emailed pickup options and instructions.

E-books: In many cases, we have e-book access through a variety of vendors as well as the Internet Archive Open Library. If we don’t have what you are looking for, please make a request using our purchase request form. See our e-book guide for the latest updates to our online collection.

Interlibrary Loan: If the item you need is loaned or in a closed collection, place a request through ILLiad, and your Interlibrary Loan department will seek out e-books, PDFs, and physical books from non-Emory libraries.

Course Reserves continue to be online only for the Summer 2021 semester. Students can access their course materials in Canvas by clicking on Library Course Reserves link in their course. Instructors can place requests for items not owned by Emory Libraries through our purchase request forms.

Equipment and media: audio/visual equipment, laptops, and media are available for loan from the Woodruff Library for current Emory faculty, staff, and students.

Proxy Privileges

If you are an Emory faculty member, a teaching graduate student, or if you need an accessibility accommodation, you can assign a proxy to pick up materials in your place.
